There are only 4 choices, and honestly I was surprised that Internet Explorer was not among them. The Internet Browser Manager is a small front-end that you can use to install other browsers such as Opera or Firefox. The 3 other choices are Windows 2000, Mac OS X, and Vista. The Look Changer offers only 3 choices in the Free Edition: Windows XP, Windows 7, and Gnome (which apparently adds the Gnome 2 taskbar at the top of your screen). These are nice, but just seemed unnecessary. Zorin also tries to step away from the rest of the “newbie friendly” pack by offering 3 exclusives: Zorin Look Changer, Zorin Internet Browser Manager, and Zorin Background Plus. LibreOffice ends up at version 3.3.4 after updating software. Both Wine and PlayOnLinux get installed by default. Java, Youtube, and the Apple Movie Trailer site (Quicktime) work out of the box. Google Chrome is the sole browser initially installed. Sound and Video (Brasero, Banshee music player, Cheese webcam booth, the Openshot Video Editor, a sound recordor, and VLC),Īnd a bunch of other standard tools, like Deja Dup for backups. Office software (a dictionary, Evolution Mail, and the 5 main LibreOffice programs) The desktop looks like this (extra wide due to being in a VM):Īfter installation, you have access to a decent assortment of applications:ĥ games (Aisleriot solitaire, Sudoku, Mahjongg, Mines, Sudoku and Quadrapossel)Ĥ graphics programs (GIMP, LibreOffice Draw, Shotwell photo manager, and a simple scanning program)Ħ Internet programs (Empathy, Evolution, Gwibber, Chrome, a remote desktop viewer, a terminal server client, and a browser manager that lets you install or uninstall any of 4 different web browsers) I’m running the Free edition, version 5.2 Core 64 bit. It is available in a Free edition and 4 Premium editions (Ultimate, Business, Multimedia, and Gaming). Zorin OS wants to be known as the “gateway to Linux for Windows users”. Disclaimer: This isn’t a full review I’m running Zorin in a virtual machine to see how it looks (Virtualbox 4.1.8).
